Premium Performance Features

PWT Treated LVL delivers four core structural advantages built specifically for Missouri's wet seasons, temperature extremes, and long-term outdoor framing demands.

FULL-DEPTH ROT & DECAY PROTECTION

TRU-CORE® technology drives treatment through every veneer layer during manufacturing, giving Missouri deck substructures complete protection against fungal rot, decay, and wood-destroying insects including Formosan termites, season after season.

STAYS FLAT AND STRAIGHT

Unlike pressure-treated dimensional lumber that crowns, bows, and twists under Missouri's humidity and temperature swings, PWT Treated LVL is engineered to stay flat and straight. No crowning, no hand planing, your deck boards lay flat from day one.

SUPERIOR SPAN CAPABILITY

PWT Treated LVL's higher strength and load capacity allows longer joist and beam spans, eliminating mid-span beams and columns. Missouri deck builders can design larger, more open decks with fewer support posts and uninterrupted sight lines.

STAINABLE AT INSTALLATION

Unlike traditional pressure-treated lumber that requires a lengthy drying period before finishing, PWT Treated LVL can be painted or stained immediately at the time of installation, saving Missouri contractors time and keeping projects on schedule.

Installation

Professional Installation Tips

Follow these five essential practices for effective, long-lasting PWT Treated LVL installation on Missouri deck framing.

1

KEEP PRODUCT DRY UNTIL INSTALLATION

PWT Treated LVL leaves the factory at 6–8% moisture content. Keep bundles wrapped, strapped, and stored off the ground on level surfaces with stickers aligned vertically. Missouri's humidity can wick moisture into unprotected end grain before installation begins.

2

FLASH ALL UPWARD HORIZONTAL SURFACES

Approved flashing tape meeting AAMA 711-13, Level 3, Class A is required on all upward horizontal joist and beam surfaces. Failure to flash properly voids the 25-year warranty and leaves Missouri substructures vulnerable to water intrusion at the most critical contact points.

3

USE EXTERIOR-GRADE FASTENERS THROUGHOUT

In all exterior Missouri applications, stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners are required. PWT Treated LVL's formula is non-corrosive, but standard uncoated fasteners will fail prematurely in Missouri's outdoor moisture conditions.

4

MAINTAIN 8" MINIMUM GROUND CLEARANCE

Except for sill plates, stair stringers, and ledgers, PWT Treated LVL must be installed at least 8 inches above the ground, ground cover, and splash zones. Separate all members from concrete with barrier materials impermeable to water.

5

SEAL ALL CUT ENDS BEFORE INSTALLATION

While PWT Treated LVL does not require retreatment of cut ends, coating all cuts with an appropriate end-grain sealer minimizes moisture wicking into exposed fibers. In Missouri's wet seasons, unprotected end grain is the most common entry point for early moisture damage.
